Baby Born In Car As Obama Convoy Closes Road

A mother on her way to hospital to give birth had her baby on a US highway after traffic was halted by Barack Obama's presidential motorcade.

Jessica Brown was with her husband, Zakk Satterley, when traffic ground to a halt on the I-65 in Louisville, Kentucky.

The road was apparently shut so that the presidential motorcade could travel from the airport to downtown Louisville.

Stormy weather did not help matters, the Louisville Courier-Journal reported.

Mr Satterley called 911 to say his wife was going into labour but emergency crews were delayed getting to the mother because traffic in the area was gridlocked.

"I went to a couple of cars and asked if they knew anything about delivering a baby," Mr Satterley.

"Thankfully we got some help."

A nurse in another car assisted the couple - and baby Arley was born minutes later.

"They said it's a boy, and I said 'yes, is it breathing? Does it have all of its toes?'"

Speaking after the birth Ms Brown seemed unimpressed she had been delayed getting to the hospital.

"I don't think it's kind of necessary to shut down the whole city," she said.

"I mean I know he's the president, but there's a lot of people that need to get where they need to go, especially like in my case."

But, referring to her new son, she added: "I'm a trooper and he's a trooper."
