Chris Brown Enters Rehab After Assault Charge

Grammy award-winning singer Chris Brown has checked into a rehab facility after being arrested and charged with assault over the weekend -reported SkyNews.

"His goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behaviour, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and his career from a healthier vantage point," his representatives said.

It comes after he was released from custody following his arrest over allegations he punched a man who tried to pose for a photograph with him outside a Washington hotel where he had a nightclub appearance.

The R&B star had been charged with a felony assault, but this was later reduced to a misdemeanour.

He appeared in court on Monday and pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Brown is due back in court on November 20, and if convicted, faces a maximum of six months in jail and a $1,000 (£622) fine.

The singer has faced a string of legal troubles and has been on probation since 2009, when he assaulted pop singer Rihanna, his then-girlfriend. His sentence included domestic violence counselling.

His probation was revoked over the summer after he was charged in a hit-and-run traffic accident in Los Angeles, but reinstated after the singer committed to another 1,000 hours of community service.

Any arrest could be considered a violation of that probation, which could see him spending time behind bars.
