Nasa scientists have been accused of using a remote controlled exploration rover to draw a penis on the surface of Mars, reported Orange News.
A photo of the image was posted on the US space agency's website - which promptly crashed, reports The Mirror.
A user on Reddit was the first to spot the unfortunate photo of what looks like a man's privates.
Nasa's twin exploration vehicles - Spirit and Opportunity - have travelled over more than 10km of Martian land, controlled by teams on Earth and cameras on the robots.
The agency lost communication with the Spirit rover in 2009 after it became stuck in some sand, perhaps ruling out its contribution to the photo.
But Opportunity is still traversing the surface on its way to the Endeavour crater.
The £1.6bn Curiosity rover robot probe later joined the exploration effort, landing on Mars in August 2012.
